Folk Literature
Folk epics,legends and supernatural stories were told by the elders. Poems were chanted and usually combined with songsand drama. Moro-Moro and Zarzuela were popular among the settlers. Stories like the legend of the Lake Inapasan in Bitoon and the Legend of Kinan-at Ulo Mountain in Carataya were also told by the old folks.
The local counterpart of the Balagtasan is the witty Balitaw and the Dagi-Dagi,which were chanted. The Sayao is a folk composition of verses and is chanted and danced by the young girls during the town fiesta. It comprises the intricacies of weaving by the dancersof the colorful ribbonettes tied in a pole at the center of the plaza. The grand finale is the fast movements while weaving the ribbonettes into a colorful and beautiful finish. There are also folk dance which requires special skills & abilities like the local Pandanggo. The Argonisa, Lulay, Curacha and Bulakena are traditionally popural among the old people.
